MEMBER HIGHLIGHT OF THE MONTH
When I look at our church membership and begin to thank God for my church family, one person (besides my Pastor) stands out. He embodies the attributes of a true
servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. Here are some of the qualities that I see in him on a consistent basis.
Humility: How many ministers/teachers/preachers do you know that can go from cleaning restrooms to standing in the pulpit, preaching the Word of God? How many members even know that our Min. May is the church's full time Housekeeper? How many in our fellowship have been helped by him and Mrs. May in tangible, as well as spiritual ways, and no one knows about it because he doesn't brag about it or put your business "in the streets?"
Obedient: Our Pastor has several men of God that are ready to assist him in any way possible. As a member of long standing ( 28 years), Min. May has stepped up to the task of always being available whenever the Pastor calls upon him. Not grudgingly, but willingly. Which brings me to the next attribute of a servant....
Willing: I think of the many times when coming to the church to prepare a meal for a funeral or other function, arms and car loaded down with groceries and supplies; and Min. May was here working. He would immediately stop what he was doing, unlock the kitchen door, and help me unload, making sure I was alright, and then get right back to his job. There was a time or two when we didn't have enough help and the spaghetti sauce needed stirring, or the eggs needed scrambling, or the ice cream needed churning; and who did the Lord send into the kitchen just in time? You guessed it - Min. May! While there are other qualities he has, here is one more characteristic of a servant...
Faithful: I've heard him say that he wants to hear our Savior say to him, "..well done thou good and faithful servant...." and I believe he will. Min. May is faithful in all the Lord places in his hands. He is a gifted teacher, as evidenced by the large numbers in his Sunday School class. He has filled in on Wednesday afternoon Bible study and I can personally testify to his teaching ability. He is a passionate, zealous preacher of the gospel as we saw when he preached a powerful message of salvation while delivering his mother's eulogy. Many can be counted on to be dependable, but few can do so with a spirit of joyful obedience in doing God's work.
If you don't know Min. May, get to know him. You will be glad you did. Min. May, I thank God for you and your beautiful Christ-like spirit. Thank you for representing our Lord, our Pastor and Mt. Olive in such a God glorifying way. And.......oh that smile!
